I think Aperture will continue to be a solid product for a couple of years even without enhancements, and although much more powerful than iPhoto, the interface is closer to iPhoto than anything else out there. They have tens (hundreds?) of millions of iPhone cameras in customers hands now and supporting them is a higher priority than supporting the higher-end amateur and professional market. iPhoto 9.4. The vibe Apple is giving off (to iOS/Mac developers anyway) is that their photography support will become even more focused on typical iPhone camera/social media usage. iPhoto 9.4.3 also offers improved Photo Stream support, some Mountain Lion optimizations and some bug fixes. Aperture 3.4.4 adds improved Photo Stream support, and addressed an import issue when using Nikon's P7700 camera. The updates are available via the Mac App Store. Apple will no doubt provide a mechanism to transfer your iPhoto catalogs to Photos but your switch to Aperture is probably happening at a good time. Apple has updated iPhoto and Aperture, its consumer and professional photography apps. Just an FYI-iPhoto is going away with Yosemite (which should be out next month). All my files are backed up to a TM drive, weekly to another drive and every couple of weeks to my MacBook Air's external drive. At the very least have a Time Machine backup. But I strongly recommend that you make a backup of all your photos before then (in case you haven't already done so). Yosemite should be out in the next 4-6 weeks. Obviously you will need a new folder for 2015 and so on.

The Raw files will not be imported, but you'll have them stored on your hard drive for when you upgrade to an OSX version that supports your RAW files. Then open iPhoto and Import the new photos from the folder Photos 2014.Ĥ. Next time you import photos from your card or camera drag them to the folder Photos 2014 you can include the RAW files.ģ. Start a new photo file system, split into folders for years, e.g. I use Aperture, for the most part, using iPhoto only for eBay shots, but this is how I recommend you use iPhoto.ġ. That's an important question about how you store your image files.
